NEW DELHI: Karnataka cricketers Prasidh Krishna, Devdutt Padikkal and Tamil Nadu’s Washington Sundar will be available for the Vijay Hazare Trophy knockout matches, commencing in Vadodara from Thursday, following their participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. KL Rahul, who participated in all five Test matches against Australia, has opted for a break and will not participate in the Hazare knockouts.
A decision regarding KL Rahul’s participation in the second phase of the Ranji Trophy, starting January 23, will be taken subsequently. India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir recently advocated for leading Indian players to participate in the remaining matches of the domestic red-ball competition.
Washington’s participation with Tamil Nadu depends on the team’s progression to the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinals.
In his three Test appearances, Washington accumulated 114 runs including a half-century but had limited bowling opportunities, delivering 37 overs and claiming three wickets as conditions favoured pace bowling.
Prasidh’s performance in the fifth Test at Sydney was noteworthy, with the fast bowler securing six Australian wickets – 3/42 and 3/65 in the first and second innings respectively.
Devdutt’s sole Test appearance at Perth, necessitated by Rohit Sharma’s absence for his second child’s birth, resulted in scores of zero and 25 in India’s 295-run victory. He was not selected for the remaining four Tests.
The 24-year-old demonstrated excellent form before departing for the India A tour to Australia, scoring four First-Class centuries across the Duleep Trophy and initial phase of the Ranji Trophy.
Prasidh and Devdutt are expected to join Karnataka’s squad on January 10, preceding their quarterfinal clash against Baroda at Vadodara.
Nitish Kumar Reddy will return from Australia on Wednesday but won’t participate immediately as Andhra failed to reach the knockout stage.
However, Nitish, who impressed with his batting in Australia, including a century at Melbourne, is expected to participate in the second phase of the Ranji Trophy.
His participation this season was limited to one match before travelling to Australia.
Andhra’s remaining fixtures include matches against Puducherry from January 23 and Rajasthan from January 30.
They currently hold the seventh position in Elite Group B, having secured four points from five matches, with three losses and two draws.
