Mumbai: More than 100 residential and commercial buildings in Sion East, an area stretching from Gandhi Market up to Sion Circle located opposite Sion Hospital, experienced a power failure for one-and-a-half hours on Thursday evening. This occurred after a feeder supplying electricity to nearly five or six substations tripped at 7.15 pm.
According to Bilal Shaikh, the assistant general manager of BEST for power supply, over 1,000 connections experienced the outage, which was restored in phases by 8.45 pm. However, BJP’s Mumbai vice president Ravi Raja claimed that more than 200 buildings (over 5000 consumers) were disconnected from supply due to a technical glitch in the feeder, allegedly caused by poor technical maintenance owing to a shortage of staff.
Shaikh, however, denied the allegations, describing it as a simple tripping phenomenon.
