Plane with 181 on board crashes in South Korea, 29 dead

An aircraft with 181 on board crashed at South Korea’s Muan airport on Sunday after it suffered a bird strike during landing, reports AFP citing Yonhap news agency. “175 passengers, 6 crew members aboard plane crashed at Muan airport,” Yonhap reported. The aircraft landing gear reportedly malfunctioned after the bird strike.
Authorities confirmed that around 29 have been killed and many are feared injured. “We have so far confirmed 29 deaths from the crash but the tally could rise due to the critically injured,” said Lee Hyeon-ji, a local fire department official.

The fire department informed Yonhap that emergency teams were conducting rescue operations from the aircraft’s rear section.
An image captured at the scene displayed the aircraft’s tail section ablaze near the runway’s edge, with emergency response vehicles and firefighting units positioned nearby.
