THANE: As many as 39 construction sites of various property developers in Thane city have been issued show cause notices by the Thane municipal corporation for allegedly flouting dust pollution control mandates issued to them ahead of the season, officials informed Wednesday.
Following poor weather conditions in the city and suburbs, the Thane municipal corporation had issued a set of guidelines to be followed by the developers undertaking construction works at around 297 sites in various parts of the city. Among the guidelines issued to the construction sites was installation of pollution meters which were periodically being monitored by civic teams. The idea was to curb dust pollution around the periphery of the respective sites, explained officials.
Meanwhile, of these, just 31 sites were found to be complying by the norms, while around 151 sites showed inadequacies following which they were levied a penalty and simultaneously asked to ensure compliance within a set period of time. However, 39 sites that completely failed to abide by the norms were issued notices by the corporation warning of forcefully stopping construction work at their respective sites if they failed to comply with the norms in the coming days.
Presently, the AQI in Thane has been fluctuating between 105 and 184 over the last one week. Several residents have nonetheless been complaining of weather related ailments.
