No defect in Kurla bus: RTO & BEST reports

Mumbai: RTO and BEST have ruled out mechanical defects in the electric bus that killed eight persons in Kurla on Dec 9, show their probe reports, clearly indicating that the accident was caused by human error. Kurla police, who are probing the case, have received the reports.
Medical tests of the driver, Sanjay More, had earlier ruled out he had been drunk. The onus is now on BEST to prove that it had imparted training to him to handle automatic transmission buses. More had claimed that he had 33 years of experience of driving manual vehicles and BEST had given him just a day’s training in driving automatic buses. “We have started recording BEST officials’ statements. They will have to explain whether they gave enough training. We are also looking at whether these officials can be held responsible for negligence,” said a police official. —S Ahmed Ali
