Navi Mumbai: Nerul police arrested a 26-year-old man for stabbing his wife over a domestic quarrel on Friday night after he came home in a drunken state. An attempt to murder case was registered, informed Nerul police.
Brahmanand Naikwadi, Senior Inspector of Nerul, informed that the victim, identified as Apela Shaha (34), was rushed to DY Patil Hospital, Nerul. She sustained multiple stab injuries to her abdomen and limbs. As she sustained severe abdominal injuries, her surgery was carried out, and later she was shifted to NMMC Hospital, Vashi, as none of her relatives were there to attend to pay for her medical expenses. The accused, identified as Shaha Bharbhuiya (26), is a daily wage labourer, and his wife worked as a waitress at a ladies’ bar.
Inspector Naikwadi said, “The accused had absconded after assaulting his wife and was changing his location by roaming around between Nerul and Juinagar railway stations. Our police team traced his whereabouts and arrested him from Nerul on Saturday. It is learnt that the injured woman is a Bangladeshi national, which is being ascertained.”
