Nearly 3,000 nursing homes do not conform to rules, finds state govt

Mumbai: The state public health department on Monday inspected 19,388 private hospitals and nursing homes and found 2,936 to be non-compliant with the rules under the Bombay Nursing Home Act. This Act mandates, among other things, that hospitals prominently display treatment, consultation, and diagnosis charges.
This inspection drive will continue at the district level until Feb 5.
The 2,936 establishments have been instructed that they must comply within one month, said officials.
“We are not carrying out the inspection in Mumbai as the establishments fall under BMC’s purview,” said an official from the public health department.
Health minister Prakash Abitkar has also directed the department to deliberate on the implementation of the Centre’s Clinical Establishment Act, 2010, and strict enforcement of the Epidemic Act to prevent situations like the Guillain-Barré syndrome outbreak in Pune. — Eshan Kalyanikar
