NEW DELHI: National Commission (NCW) for Women announced Saturday that they have taken cognizance of the sexual abuse case reported by teen in Kerala and involving over 60 men.
“On the directions of Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, the National Commission for Women has taken serious note of reports of a teenage girl alleging sexual abuse by 64 individuals over four years in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district,” siad the NCW in a post on X.
The NCW also stated that they will fully support the victim and have demaned report from Kerala Police within three days, while calling for proper investigation. “While 5 accused have been arrested, the Commission strongly condemns this heinous crime and has directed authorities to ensure the immediate arrest of all accused, a fair and time-bound investigation, and necessary support for the victim, including medical and psychological care. A detailed action taken report has been sought within 3 days,” the commission said while tagging the Kerala Police.
The case stems from a teenage girl in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district who has alleged sexual abuse by around 64 people over four years, including coaches, classmates, and locals.
The abuse is said to have occurred at various locations, including sports camps. The girl, now 18, revealed her ordeal during a school counseling session, prompting a police case after intervention by the child welfare committee. Five suspects have been arrested, and a sixth is already in prison, according to the police. The investigation, overseen by the district police chief, includes cases under the Pocso Act. Authorities confirmed the allegations following psychological counseling.
