Tamil actress Nayanthara recently opened about all the trolling her husband has been receiving due to the marriage. In an open talk, she spoke about her perception that Vignesh’s trolling happens because of this marriage and why the contrast between their professional achievements could not be a public interest issue. Public eyes on Nayanthara and Vignesh relationship have made an interesting subject of the documentary on Netflix, ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’. Even the couple has drawn flak for their protest over actor-filmmaker Dhanush refusing to give them a No-Objection Certificate for the documentary.
Speaking on their marriage and its implications for Nayanthara in an interview with ‘The Hollywood Reporter India’, she spoke of their experiences together as a couple. She accepted, “Sometimes, I feel that it would’ve been better if we were not together. I always feel guilty. Even today I feel guilty. I dragged him into this relationship; not dragged him, but I took the first step”. Nayanthara felt that if she did not exist, Vignesh could have gone out as his own person with the name that came along with their collaboration—director, lyricist, writer. She described him as a good and kind person, and though she thinks of herself as a good person too, sometimes she feels she cannot match his goodness.
The couple’s deep love and respect for each other are sometimes overshadowed by the public’s judgment, especially the assumption that success in one’s career should align with a partner’s level of success. Nayanthara explained, “We all think that if somebody is successful, they have to get married to somebody who is equally successful. But it’s love that you’re choosing. You’re not choosing success. You’re not choosing money and luxury. That’s not how it’s calculated at all. You fall in love, you fall in love.” She further said that their relationship is based on unconditional love, no sacrifices, no compromise.
She also confessed that their careers have followed different routes. While Nayanthara is an established star with a list of hit films to her credit, Vignesh’s career, though promising, hasn’t really clicked. According to Nayanthara, the reason behind the trolling is that he hasn’t been able to deliver back-to-back blockbusters like her and that the public unfairly compares their careers. “I feel it’s so unfair to compare me and him,” she said, defending their relationship against the unwarranted criticism.
Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan got married in 2022. The couple was in love for seven years before marriage. In 2022, they were blessed with twin sons through surrogacy, which was the second beautiful phase of their life together.
