New Year's Eve argument turns deadly: two arrested for murder in northwest Delhi

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man was murdered by his two friends after an argument during New Year’s Eve in Northwest Delhi‘s Keshavpuram.
They left the body in a locked room, and after seven days, the case came to light when neighbours complained to the police about a foul smell. The accused were identified through social media reels.
The accused were identified as Ranjeet (30) and Neeraj Verma (23).
On January 7, police received a PCR call regarding a foul smell emanating from a locked room in Rampura. Upon reaching the spot, the police discovered a male body in a decomposed state inside the room.
The deceased’s face was blackened, and an Aadhaar card in the name of Golu was found. However, during further investigation, the deceased was positively identified by his sister as Golu. A case was subsequently registered.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh, during the inquiry, it was found that Golu used to make reels with Ranjeet. Ranjeet was detained for questioning along with his friend Neeraj. During the investigation, they confessed to the murder, and the weapon of offence, a stick, was recovered.
On December 31, while celebrating New Year’s Eve, Golu had an argument with the accused, which led to a scuffle. Golu fell, suffered a head injury, and was then thrashed with a stick. The accused then left the body in the room, locked it, and fled.
Both accused confessed that Golu worked with them in a tent house and later in a footwear factory. At their workplace, he often reprimanded and verbally abused them. On one occasion, Golu physically assaulted them, further intensifying their resentment.
“Harbouring deep anger and humiliation, the accused decided to take revenge for their insult, leading them to murder Golu,” the police said.
