As Mumbai gears up to welcome 2025, many are choosing to celebrate New Year’s Eve with cosy home parties. For some, the choice to party at home is a way to escape the traffic jams and crowds, but for others, it’s about creating beautiful memories with dear ones in a relaxed setting.
‘We are swapping clubs for couches’
Aditya Patkar, a banker from Vikhroli, who is hosting a party at his 3BHK, says, “For me and my friends, it’s comfort and camaraderie for us. We are looking forward to chilling out together and having a great time. We are swapping clubs for couches.”
Professional caterers have added to the experience of house parties. Shweta Pawar, an advertising executive, who has opted for such a service for her New Year house party, says, “To cater to the likes and preferences of your guests, hiring a catering service makes perfect sense. The food that is served can make or break a party, so it’s important that the menu is top-notch. The caterer I have hired who understand my guests’ preferences and will serve accordingly.” A gourmet potluck dinner is another hot favourite for home parties.
Theme parties are a hit
Many are planning theme nights, too. From retro and Bollywood-themed parties to an evening of karaoke and even board games, people are making big plans. Shikha Agarwal, a screenwriter-filmmaker, shares, “Game night and karaoke are always a hit, but we decided to do something different and try board games. We are ready with Taboo, Shasn, Catan, Ludo, Monopoly, Chess, Scrabble and Jenga for a night full of fun and friendly competition.”
Hema Pillai, an entrepreneur, says, “Having a theme adds to the fun. We have a retro night and have made it compulsory for everyone to follow the theme. Be it the décor, clothes or music, everything will reflect that.”
