MPSC aspirants get phone calls offering exam paper for Rs 40 lakh

NEW DELHI: Pune police have arrested three individuals who allegedly contacted aspirants preparing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination and offered them the question paper for Rs 40 lakh, officials said on Sunday. However, there is no evidence to suggest that the paper had been leaked, they confirmed.
According to an official, the Pune police crime branch arrested the accused Deepak Gayaram Gaydhane, Sumit Kailas Jadhav, and Yogesh Surendra Waghmare on Saturday.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged on Friday by Suvarna Kharat, the secretary of MPSC, who reported that several students preparing for the competitive examination had received phone calls from an unknown number, with the caller offering to sell them the exam paper for Rs 40 lakh.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Nikhil Pingle stated, “Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case so far. Two suspects were apprehended from the Chakan area, while another was arrested in Nagpur.”
He further added that, based on the ongoing investigation, there is no evidence to indicate that the exam paper had actually been leaked, and the matter remains under further scrutiny.
The police have also recovered a list of 24 students whom the accused had contacted or intended to approach.
A case has been registered against the trio under sections 62, 318(4), 353 1(B), and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Maharashtra Competitive Exam Act, police officials confirmed.
