Motorcyclist abuses and threatens traffic cop, booked

Mumbai: A 52-year-old traffic policeman was verbally abused and threatened by the owner of a motorcycle while the cop was trying to challan the two-wheeler at Malad on Thursday. An FIR has been registered against the motorcycle owner by the Malad police.
Santosh Bhogle, an assistant sub inspector with the Goregaon traffic division, was on duty on a towing van to take action against illegally parked vehicles. Around 11am, he was on SV Road when he noticed a bike obstructing the flow of traffic. On making inquiries around, he found the owner of the two-wheeler inside a carpet shop nearby. The owner replied that it was heavy and couldn’t be moved.
Bhogle noticed that the bike did not have a numberplate and started to issue a challan. This enraged the owner of the two-wheeler who started using expletives and threatened Bhogle with dire consequences. Bhogle tried to talk sense, but was met with verbal abuse. He then sought help from Malad Police and took the owner of the motorcycle to the Malad police station. The FIR against the man has been registered under sections of BNS for assauting a public servant on duty.
