Mumbai: Ahead of the upcoming BMC budget for 2025-26, SP MLA and former BMC corporator Rais Shaikh wrote to civic commissioner, demanding action against major property tax defaulters.
According to a list, the top 10 defaulters alone owe the BMC approximately Rs 600 crore and include Lower Parel’s Raghuvanshi Mills, Omkar Developers, J Kumar Infrastructure, and Shreeram Mills Limited. Shaikh, in his letter, said the BMC’s property tax target for this financial year is Rs 6,200 crore, with payments due by Dec. “There is a need for strict action against those who can afford to pay but fail to do so,” said Shaikh. — Richa Pinto
