Colva:Mission Rabies will deploy a team to assist the Cavelossim panchayat in implementing strategies to reduce dog bite risks. After a series of attacks on beach visitors, the panchayat requested help from the animal welfare body.
Sarpanch Dixon Vaz confirmed the assistance of Mission Rabies and said about the two incidents of dog attack on Jan 1. “These attacks ruined holidays and tarnished our village’s reputation as a tourist destination,” Vaz said, adding that in Dec, three tourists were attacked by stray dogs at Cavelossim-Mobor beach.
He also said that the increased frequency of these attacks will impact tourism, especially with the decline in tourist footfall.
The panchayat has set up a dog shelter with a caretaker to care for stray, injured, and abandoned dogs, ensuring they are fed twice daily. Despite these efforts, Vaz highlighted the need for additional measures to address the growing menace.
