Mission Parivar Vikas: Enhancing family planning awareness in Varanasi

VARANASI: Under the family planning programme, the Mission Parivar Vikas campaign will be conducted from January 18 to 31. The campaign was already conducted during World Population Day fortnight in July 2024 and Male Sterilisation fortnight in November 2024.
The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sandeep Chaudhary, said that the aim of the campaign is to spread family planning messages to remote areas of the district during the fortnight and to benefit as many beneficiaries as possible with family planning services.

Saif Ali Khan Health Update

He stated that all district units and community and primary health centres in the district have been instructed to promote the campaign and provide necessary information to beneficiaries.
The community will be made aware through a vehicle called ‘Sarthi’ and encouraged towards sterilisation for both men and women. A ‘Saas-Beta-Bahu’ conference will be organised at all Ayushman health centres, along with a ‘Mr Smart’ conference.
The deputy CMO and programme nodal officer, Dr. H.C. Maurya, said that during the campaign, communication will be established within the community, and extensive promotion of male sterilisation will be carried out. Sterilisation champions will be identified and presented as model couples within the community. Newlyweds will receive ‘Shagun Kits‘ during home visits by ASHA workers.
During the family planning service campaign, interested couples will be provided with sterilisation services, along with other contraceptive methods like IUCD (interval and postpartum), Antara, Chhaya, and condoms. He added that community-level workers such as ANMs, ASHA facilitators, ASHA workers, and health unit staff will counsel couples on various available family welfare methods and tools (basket of choice).
Temporary family planning methods will also be distributed through ASHA workers during home visits. Regular refilling of condom boxes (self-care kits) and proper supply of family planning materials are being ensured at all units up to the sub-centre level.
