Mhada starts amnesty plan for OCs of redevpt bldgs

Mumbai: State housing agency Mhada on Monday introduced an amnesty scheme to help housing societies obtain long pending occupancy certificates (OC) for redeveloped buildings. This scheme will benefit around 80 housing societies and will operate till April 10, 2025.
“Many housing societies were unable to pay the premium differential amount for redevelopment, which led to delays in the issuance of OCs. Mhada has waived the interest charged on the differential amount. Societies will now need to pay only the principal amount. Additionally, buildings redeveloped under the 1991 DC regulations will receive a 75% waiver on penalties related to unauthorised construction or usage,” Mhada said.
The agency also announced a policy reform stating “maintenance charges and property taxes for housing units and plots will henceforth be applicable only from the date of possession”. “Earlier, beneficiaries had to pay maintenance charges and property taxes starting from the date of allotment, even if possession of the property was delayed.” Mhada VP and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal said flats and plots “remain Mhada’s responsibility until possession is granted”. tnn
