ULHASNAGAR: The state government has announced the appointment of IAS officer Manisha Awhale as the new Commissioner of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC).
Awhale, who previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of Pune Smart City, succeeds Vikas Dhakne, who has been transferred to serve as Joint Secretary to deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar.

Awhale assumed charge of her new post on Friday. She becomes the first woman to hold the position of Commissioner at UMC since its establishment in 1996.
According to sources, Manisha Awhale is the daughter of a farmer, whose father dreamt that his daughter would become a collector. Despite facing significant struggles, her father ensured that she received an education. Awhale fulfilled her father’s dream by becoming an IAS officer in 2018.
