Man booked for attempting to deposit counterfeit currency at bank in Thane
A man tried to deposit fake currency in a Thane bank. He had Rs 45,000 in 500 rupee notes. 45 notes were counterfeit. Police are investigating. The man is 48 years old.

NEW DELHI: A 48-year-old man has been booked for attempting to deposit counterfeit currency at a cooperative bank in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred on December 3 when the accused, a resident of Khadavli, attempted to deposit Rs 45,000 in Rs 500 denomination notes at the bank.
Upon verification, 45 of the notes were found to be fake. A case has been registered against the accused under section 179 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to the use of counterfeit currency, along with other relevant provisions.
While no arrests have been made yet, the police are investigating the source of the counterfeit notes.
