Mumbai: With works on the southbound arm of Malad’s Mith Chowky bridge on track, the flyover will be fully operational by mid-Jan, said BMC officials. On Sunday, Union minister and Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal visited the site and directed BMC to expedite the work.
While the northbound arm towards Malad station was inaugurated by Goyal and local MLA Aslam Shaikh on Oct 6, the southbound arm connecting to Link Road is expected to be ready by Jan 14. According to officials from BMC’s bridges department, curing work on the newly laid slab is underway.
BJP’s Vinod Shelar, who was Malad assembly seat nominee for the recently concluded elections, said once the southbound arm of the bridge is ready, there will be fewer traffic jams at Mith Chowky junction.
The 800m bridge is ‘T-shaped’ with its eastern arm originating from Girdhar Park. The bridge passes above Malad Creek and extends above the Mith Chowky traffic junction. The landing is near St Joseph’s School, from where vehicles can move further towards Malad station and Western Express Highway. The second arm extends southwards from the flyover’s main carriageway and will land on Link Road, from where motorists can travel towards Infiniti Mall and Andheri.
