KALYAN: After the defeat in the recent assembly elections, Uddhav Thackeray‘s Shiv Sena (UBT) announced on Saturday that it would fight the upcoming municipal elections alone to strengthen the party.
However, on the same day, the party faced a major setback in Kalyan Dombivli, where an ex-Shiv Sena corporator of UBT, Sangeeta Patil, and many other party functionaries left the party and joined Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde in the presence of Deputy CM Eknath Shinde in Thane.
After the Lok Sabha elections, the winds of the municipal elections started blowing. Against this backdrop, UBT is preparing to contest the corporation election independently. However, in Dombivli, the Thackeray group was once again defeated by the Shinde group.
Sangeeta Patil, a former corporator of UBT, along with her husband Mukesh Patil, office bearer Mukesh Patil, Narendra Mhatre, Kishore Sawant, Nilesh Sawant, Vikas Sonawane, and many other party functionaries, joined Shiv Sena.
After the split in Shiv Sena, most of the corporators and office bearers of Kalyan Dombivli seemed to prefer going with Eknath Shinde. In the assembly election, the Shinde faction performed well in Thane District, and now, with civic elections nearing, those left in UBT have started leaving the party.
