Maharashtra to transform MSRTC bus terminals into high-end ‘bus-ports’ with modern amenities

Thane: Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, on Sunday, directed transport minister Pratap Sarnaik to start working on upgrading all MSRTC bus terminals and depots in the state into swanky ‘bus-ports’ and provide amenities and visual appeal similar to an airport. Shinde also urged cashless hospitals to be operated from within all depots across the state.
Shinde said his govt took serious note of upgrading facilities at the MSRTC depots and likewise flagged off the initiative by directing the MIDC to pool in Rs 500 crore last year to concretise roads within the 191 depots. “Efforts are being taken to convert MSRTC depots into swanky bus-ports in the near future, matching infrastructure and facilities with airport terminals. The aim is to give a five-star feel to our bus depots,” he said.
Shinde was addressing the gathering following the inauguration of the first-ever fully furbished AC dormitory and resting room for MSRTC drivers and conductors at the Khopat depot in Thane. “I visited the restroom during my tenure as a CM and was appalled to see its pathetic condition, following which I ordered its upgradation. Our transport minister has now ensured that we have a model dormitory complete with AC and bunk beds for the staff to rest after long journeys. The staff provides a safe journey to our commuters, and it was necessary to take care of their needs also. We will replicate the model at all MSRTC depots in the state,” said Shinde.
Sarnaik said that plans are afoot to construct and operate 100-bed hospitals with cashless facilities for the benefit of MSRTC staff and the general public at all depots in the state. “People should get proper health facilities near their homes. These hospitals will have all modern health care facilities on the lines of similar facilities like Aapla Davakhan introduced in Thane, Mira-Bhayender, and Mumbai,” he said.
