NAVI MUMBAI: One never knows how and when death will call. A 48-year-man dropped dead soon after a dry coconut landed on his head while he was riding his two-wheeler in Raigad Sunday evening.
Jayesh Gite, a 48-year-old from Murud, was on his scooty with his wife riding pillion, when the coconut landed on his head, some 90 feet below.
The act of gravity caused Jayesh, a coxswain for a fishing boat at Murud, and his wife to fall off the scooter. An oncoming vehicle just about missed running them over.
The coconut palm, which stands on private property at a turning point abutting the road, is tilted at an angle.
Jayesh and his wife had picked up religious articles for a puja, one of which was a coconut, minutes before the other coconut dangling from the palm crash-landed on him.
He was taken to hospital where he was declared ‘brought dead’. The freak accident has been captured on CCTV camera.
