Maharashtra MLA falls into drain, fractures hand

THANE: Kalyan Rural’s Shiv Sena MLA Rajesh More suffered a fracture in his hand after falling into a drain during MP Shrikant Shinde‘s inspection tour of development work in Ambarnath.
More was first admitted to Dombivli’s AIMS Hospital, from where he was later shifted to Lilavati Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
During his visit, Shinde instructed the department concerned officials to complete the projects within the stipulated time.
Who is Rajesh More
Shiv Sena’s Rajesh Govardhan More had defeated Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS)’s Pramod (Raju) Ratan Patil in the Kalyan Rural assembly constituency in the fiercely fought assembly elections..
More had secured a commanding lead with 1,41,164 votes, surpassing Patil’s 74,768 votes by a margin of 66,396. This constituency, located within Thane district, is one of Maharashtra’s 288 assembly constituencies and forms part of the Kalyan Parliamentary Constituency, which includes five other assembly segments.
The 2024 elections were crucial for Shiv Sena as More aimed to reclaim the seat after the party’s previous loss in the 2019 assembly elections.
Back then, MNS candidate Pramod Ratan Patil had emerged victorious with 93,927 votes, defeating Shiv Sena’s Ramesh Sukarya Mhatre, who garnered 86,773 votes. This recent win marks a comeback for Shiv Sena in the region.
Historically, the Kalyan Rural constituency has seen fluctuating political fortunes. In the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Shiv Sena’s Subhash Bhoir clinched victory with 84,110 votes, while MNS’s Ramesh Ratan Patil received 39,898 votes.
The constituency’s demographic composition, according to the 2011 Census, includes approximately 19,826 Scheduled Caste (SC) voters, making up 4.83% of the electorate, and around 8,702 Scheduled Tribe (ST) voters, representing 2.12% of the total voters.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Shiv Sena’s triumph in Kalyan Rural set the stage for future electoral battles in Maharashtra, with parties vying for influence and support in this dynamic region.
