Mumbai: The island city RTO has revoked licences of two motorists for three months for speeding and allegedly engaging in car racing, resulting in a crash. The two drivers, aged 19 and 22, were allegedly racing in the coastal road tunnel on Friday when a car collided with the tunnel’s wall. No one was injured in the accident.
The Malabar Hill police, acting on a constable’s complaint, registered an FIR against the two for rash and negligent driving, as well as driving dangerously.
The two vehicles have also been seized by the RTO and a probe is being conducted. Joint transport commissioner Ravi Gaikwad on Saturday announced that a police FIR will be registered against any citizen found racing a bike or a car on road across state.
A police officer said the two drivers, one a Marine Line resident and the other a Grant Road resident, knew each other. There was a female friend in one of the cars. The accident occurred after driver of a car lost balance driving from southbound to northbound lane in coastal road tunnel and collided with the wall.
