Mumbai: Residents of Andheri West on Sunday, along with shopkeepers, convened a meeting with local MLA Ameet Satam and the K-West ward road engineer to discuss the proposed widening of the arterial JP Road and its potential impact.
JP Road, a heavily congested stretch from the SV Road junction to Navrang Cinema, serves as a key connector to Link Road, Lokhandwala and Versova.
The locals called for the meeting to understand the impact of the road widening and the rehabilitation process. The civic engineer assured them that the majority of the affected shops would be rehabilitated on site by following ‘the Kurar pattern’, which refers to giving the affected party additional area to construct vertically.
Rakesh Kothari, founder of the local advanced locality management who convened the meeting, said decongesting JP Road is the need of the hour and will provide relief to lakhs, but added that those affected should be rehabilitated on site as much as possible.
Satam said he will ensure proper rehabilitation. “JP Road’s widening was pending for a long time. It will provide relief to citizens.” —Richa Pinto
