KDMC launches first solar-powered school in Dombivli, aims to make all schools solar powered

KALYAN: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) created a project to make all the schools in its area solar-powered. On the occasion of Gudi Padwa, they declared their school in Patharli of Dombivli the first solar-powered school, under which the entire school will run on solar power.
KDMC built this school with the help of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds and also planned to make 59 other KDMC schools solar-powered in the coming months. Many social organisations and corporate companies in the city are coming forward to help under CSR.
The KDMC is actively promoting solar power by mandating its installation in new buildings and investing in solar projects, aiming for a greener and sustainable future for the city. The civic body was even awarded at the national level for their solar initiative.
The solar power project at Acharya Bhise Guruji School, which is KDMC’s school no. 62 in Patharli, Dombivli, was inaugurated on Sunday on the occasion of Gudi Padwa by KDMC Commissioner Dr Indurani Jakhar. A four-kilowatt capacity solar power project has been set up in this school. Therefore, this will be the first school in Kalyan Dombivli to run entirely on solar power.
“We are focusing on improving the condition of schools in Kalyan Dombivli and the quality of education. We will start seeing its visible results from the coming year,” Commissioner Dr Jakhar explained on this occasion.
Prashant Bhagwat, Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department who initiated this project, said, “For this, social organisations, developers, etc. have been contacted, and solar power projects will be implemented in all other schools soon.”
