KDMC honored with Green Urja and Energy Efficiency awards in Delhi

KALYAN: The Indian Chamber of Commerce awarded the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation with the 5th Green Urja and Energy Efficiency Awards. The award was presented at a program held in New Delhi on February 25.
The municipal corporation was selected for this award under the category of Energy Transition and Street Lighting. The award was given due to KDMC’s outstanding performance in the solar energy sector.
Prashant Bhagwat, Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department, accepted the award on behalf of KDMC. He was awarded by the hands of Dr Ranjeev Singh, Director General of the Indian Chamber of Commerce.
In KDMC’s jurisdiction from 2007 to 2021, solar hot water systems with a capacity of one crore eight lakh litres per day were installed by the developer on a total of 1,832 buildings. Due to this, geysers are not used by residents, saving around 18 crore electricity units every year. In addition to this, since 2021, the KDMC has made it mandatory for developers to implement rooftop net meter solar power generation projects. To date, 3.6 MW rooftop net meter solar power generation projects have been implemented on 197 buildings, from which 52 lakh electricity units of solar power are being generated every year.
Additionally, there are 160 kW solar power generation plants for 10 ward area offices. Talking to TOI, Bhagwat said that the electricity department, under the leadership of KDMC Commissioner Indurani Jakhar, always aims to save electricity in the city through solar energy, through which they can protect the environment as sustainable solutions for the city.
