Mumbai: Commuters at Kandivli station can look forward to some relief from congestion as the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has commissioned a new deck on the west side of the station along with a foot overbridge (FOB) as part of its station improvement initiatives.
Sunil Udasi, chief public relations officer of MRVC, stated, “We commissioned a 10.4-metre-wide deck on the west side of Kandivli station as part of the ongoing station improvement works. This elevated deck, connected to Platform No. 1, spans a length of 45 metres and includes an escalator for commuter convenience.”
Additionally, a new southern foot overbridge, measuring 40 metres in length and 10 metres in width, was completed. It features three staircases connecting Platform Nos. 1, 2/3, and 4, further enhancing accessibility for passengers.
The Kandivli Station Improvement Project, which began in 2023, encompasses several key upgrades aimed at easing commuter movement. These include a 263-metre-long deck connecting the south and north FOBs, a new 84-metre-long north FOB, a 42-metre middle FOB, and a total of seven staircases, three lifts, and four escalators. Plans also include a new station building on the west side, the widening of Platform No. 1, and the construction of a toilet block on the north side. Furthermore, a 4-metre-wide skywalk is under construction to link the new south FOB to the existing south FOB on Platforms 2/3 and 4.
Several elements of the project remain under progress, including a 197-metre section of the deck, the north FOB, two additional lifts, three staircases, three escalators, the skywalk, and the north-side toilet block.
The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 55 crore, is targeted for completion by Dec 2025. Udasi said, “Once finished, it promises to significantly improve commuter experience by reducing congestion and enhancing overall connectivity at Kandivli station.”
