KALYAN: Vishal Gawli and his wife Sakshi, accused in the case of rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in Kalyan, were produced in Kalyan POCSO court today, where they were sent to two-day police custody.
During their appearance, a large number of citizens were present outside the court, peacefully demanding the death penalty for the accused.
Both the accused were produced in court amid heavy police security after their seven-day police custody ended. In the court, the accused expressed his suspicion of an encounter similar to the one involving the accused in the Badlapur case.
The accused’s lawyer, Sanjay Dhanke, asked the judge to allow a member of Vishal Gawli’s family to stay with him while he is in police custody, to prevent an encounter similar to that of Ankush Shinde, accused of sexually abusing minor girls in Badlapur. However, the judge refused this request.
During the argument, the police stated they collected much evidence related to the case and requested more police custody to gather the remaining evidence.
The judge granted the accused two-day police custody. During the hearing, the parents of the girl were also present and asked the judge to award the death penalty to the accused.
