‘Jilted’ Karnataka man blows himself up in front of lover’s house | Mysuru News

MANDYA: A 21-year-old man died after detonating a gelatin stick in front of the house of a girl he was in love with, following her family’s rejection of him, according to police statements on Monday. The tragic incident took place in Mandya district of Kalenahalli village during the early hours of Sunday.
Police reports that Ramachandra had been involved with an underage girl. Last year, he faced charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for eloping with the girl. He was subsequently arrested and remained in custody for three months as an under-trial prisoner.
Upon his release, he reached a settlement with the girl’s family, leading to the withdrawal of the case in court. However, he subsequently resumed contact with the girl and persisted in maintaining their relationship, as per police accounts.
A senior police official revealed that the girl’s family had intentions to arrange her marriage to another person once she reached the legally permissible age for marriage.
Ramachandra from a nearby village in Nagamangala taluk reportedly harboured resentment towards a family who had turned down his advances. On Sunday, he arrived at the residence of the minor girl and triggered a gelatin stick he was carrying, resulting in his immediate death from the explosion, the officer added.
The police have registered a case following a complaint from Ramachandra’s relatives who termed it a suspicious death.
According to police sources, his family’s involvement in the quarrying business had enabled his access to the gelatin stick.
