Mumbai: The Ajmer (Rajasthan) police on Saturday detained a 36-year-old man for allegedly sending a message to the Mumbai traffic police’s WhatsApp helpline number, threatening bomb blasts in two Indian cities and warned of a plot targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The man was angry after he was sacked from his job and sent messages, the initial probe found.
The accused, Mirza Mohammed Beg, a resident of Jharkhand who works at a private company in Palanpur, Gujarat, was detained by the Ajmer police after the Mumbai police found that the threat originated from a phone number traced to Ajmer.
“Beg went to his workplace in a drunken state. Due to this, his office asked him not to come to work. He was angry and sent messages. We are questioning him to get more details and verifying all the details,” said a senior police officer.
Beg, booked for criminal intimidation, is being brought to Mumbai on a transit remand. There were reports that he sent threat messages to another state police as well.
The threat message allegedly warned of a planned attack involving two alleged agents of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The message sender identified himself as Prince Khan. The message warned of a plot to target Mumbai, Dhanbad, and PM Modi.
A team from ATS in Rajasthan and Clock Tower police station traced Beg’s location outside Ajmer railway station. Beg was detained, and it was found that he came to Ajmer from Palanpur by train and was about to board a train for Jharkhand.
