Innovative options needed to raise funds for development of cities: Fadnavis

Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said there is a need to spend funds for the development of cities in the state, and capital investment will have to be made for the infrastructure development of the city. However, innovative financial options should be created to raise funds for this. CM Fadnavis took a review meeting of the Urban Development (UD) department and gave instructions to empower various planning authorities in the state and make their work on the lines of a company. During a review meeting of the Skill Development department, CM Fadnavis gave instructions to develop innovation hubs in different places for innovation development among youth.
Additional chief secretary (UD-1) Aseem Gupta made a presentation of the department. Gupta’s presentation spoke of empowering various planning authorities under the UD department’s jurisdiction, planning road development in 3,500 villages near cities, implementing urban resolution projects in cities with a population of over one million in the state, computerising the process of issuing building permits, and making changes to the integrated urban development and control regulations as per the tourism policy.
“The number of theatres for films needs to be increased in every city in the state. For this, CM suggested whether some concessions can be given to the existing single-screen theatres, and whether Marathi plays and films can be shown in the same theatre. The proposal for funding the Solapur Smart City water supply scheme should be approved. CM Fadnavis said this will solve the water problem of the people of Solapur,” officials said.
“1,10,000 youth will be trained under short-term training programs through the Skill Development department. Make plans to increase training capacity by providing updated training facilities in govt industrial training institutes. Collaboration with industrial establishments will be increased. Women entrepreneurs will be encouraged through the Startup Support Scheme. Necessary funds will be provided for the department’s schemes. Skilled Maharashtra, Employment-rich Maharashtra will be created,” Fadnavis said.
