Indira Krishna on celebrating Pongal, says ‘It is a time to reflect on the gifts of nature instilling a sense of belonging and gratitude’

Actress Indira Krishna, enjoys celebrating Pongal. This year the actress is celebrating the festival with her sister. The actress who essayed Paani Bai, an antagonist in the TV show “Durga”, feels Pongal is a time to reflect on the gifts of nature.
She said, “Pongal is a vibrant and major harvest celebration. To mark the celebration during Pongal, we paint our homes with beautiful Kolam designs, prepare traditional meals such as sakkarai pongal, the celebration is a joyful occasion that draws families and communities together, instilling a sense of belonging and gratitude. Pongal is a time to reflect on the gifts of nature.”

She continued, “I enjoy celebrating the festival. Today on this auspicious day, there are a few rituals that I do religiously and I did that even today. I cooked turmeric rice and jaggery rice along with two pieces of sugarcane, I kept it in front of Deviji. I’m going to enjoy the festival with my family and sister. She’s is here with me this year.”

Sharing ahead about the significance of the festival celebrated by Tamils, she added, “This festival spans four days, is dedicated to thanking nature, particularly the sun, for a fruitful harvest. Each day of Pongal has unique significance: Bhogi Pongal is for discarding old items and welcoming new beginnings. Thai Pongal honours the Sun God with offerings of sweet Pongal. Mattu Pongal celebrates farm animals, especially cows, for their contribution to agriculture, and Kaanum Pongal is a day for family outings and bonding. Pongal is not just about rituals it symbolises gratitude, prosperity, and joy. The name Pongal also refers to the signature dish made of rice, jaggery, and milk, representing abundance. Sharing this sweet dish symbolises togetherness and love.”
