Pedestrian safety to be boosted at Aarey Metro stn

Mumbai: Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has announced the construction of a new pedestrian crossing across Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) to improve accessibility for commuters using the Aarey-JVLR station on the Line 3. Phase I of Metro 3 between BKC and Aarey-JVLR was opened to commuters on Oct 7. The lack of a proper pedestrian pathway has made it challenging for travellers to reach the nearest bus stop. Commuters are forced to navigate oncoming traffic, including SUVs, and heavy vehicles such as buses, dump trucks and cement mixers, raising serious safety concerns.
To address these issues, MMRC announced on X (formerly Twitter), “To enhance safety, a pedestrian blinker signal has been installed, along with cat eyes and rumble strips to ensure vehicles yield to pedestrians.”
As part of its initiative to enhance last-mile connectivity for Metro 3 passengers, BEST has introduced new bus stops near the Aarey-JVLR station. These stops will cater to routes such as C-60, 307, 403 Ltd, 425, and 428. A BEST official stated, “This move aims to provide better last-mile connectivity and improve the overall travel experience.” With 16 bus routes now operating through these stops, commuters have better travel options.
