A few years ago, the life of Mumbai-based entrepreneur Jeetendra Lalwani was as far away from the world of healthcare as possible. He had his own advertising and marketing agency. Then, in 2016, his father became unwell, and everything changed.
“I faced a lot of challenges in getting ambulances. Sometimes, they would inflate the price by 4-5 times because they could understand the patient was critical or they would take over an hour to come,” he recalls. Then one day when his father had a heart-attack, the ambulance reached the hospital instead of his home. Due to this tragic mix-up, Lalwani lost his father. A year later, in an attempt to address some of these problems, Lalwani launched his own startup, Dial4242, which now operates in over 800 cities across the country, and has a fleet of over 13,000 ambulances.
