Hawker held for stabbing another in local train | Mumbai News

Mumbai: A 49-year-old hawker was arrested by the Govt Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed another hawker in the women’s coach of a local train compartment between Andheri and Bandra stations. Police said the victim, Sachin Dharolia, 24, and his associate, had intervened in an altercation between women commuters and the accused, Pradeep Kshatriya. Police have slapped charges of ‘attempt to commit murder’ on Kshatriya.
Police said Kshatriya had boarded the second-class women’s coach of a Churchgate-bound local from Virar station on Wednesday. Before the train reached Andheri, an altercation broke out between Kshatriya and the women commuters. Around 2 pm, Dharolia and another hawker boarded the same compartment at Andheri station. “There’s a possibility that some of the women commuters may have asked Dharolia and his associate for help,” said a police officer. Dharolia and his associate intervened. A scuffle broke out between Kshatriya and Dharolia.
Police said Kshatriya was carrying a small knife which he used for stabbing Dharolia in the stomach. Dharolia has suffered a four inch long gash near the navel. One of the women commuters pulled the alarm chain. When the train halted at Bandra station, the women commuters raised an alarm. Commuters standing on the platform caught hold of Kshatriya and thrashed him. He was later handed over to Bandra GRP.
Both, Kshatriya and Dharolia, were rushed to a public hospital as both had suffered injuries in the incident. Subsequently, an FIR was registered against Kshatriya under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita by the Bandra GRP.
