Mumbai: A recent directive from the Nandurbar district education officer in Maharashtra has stirred controversy, mandating government primary schools to display flex-boards featuring 6×4-inch photos of all permanent teachers. As part of the ‘Aamche Guruji’ (Our Teacher) initiative, schools are required to showcase each teacher’s name, their educational qualifications, and subjects taught, in a prominent location outside the principal’s office.
The circular applies to all schools, irrespective of medium or management, with a compliance deadline of Jan 5, 2025, and progress reports due by Jan 2. It follows a virtual review meeting held by the Directorate of Primary Education, hinting at statewide implementation in other districts. Sharad Gosavi, director of primary education, confirmed, “This is a Central government initiative and is applicable in different states.”
