Vasai: The owner of a jewellery store at Vasai (west) was assaulted and 600gm of gold ornaments stolen within 80 seconds late Friday evening.
The robbery, captured on CCTV, involved two armed men — one wearing a helmet, the other with a mask on. They entered Mayank Jewellers store at Agarwal City. O ne of them gagged the owner, Ratanlal Sanghvi(67), while brandishing a gun, and led him to the safe room. The other forced him to unlock the vault, and took the ornaments kept inside, while his accomplice pinned the owner down. They emptied the gold into a bag, and left within a minute and 20 seconds.
The owner sustained injury, but his condition is stable now, said deputy commissioner of police Pournima Chougule-Shringi. “A gun was used to hit him, but no bullet was fired,” she clarified.
Members of the local jewellers association met the police officer. “We are glad our colleague is out of danger, but we have sought prompt police action and [help for] recovery of the booty. “, said Virendra Singh of the association.
