Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A special investigation team’s (SIT) ongoing probe into an alleged Rs 2 crore extortion bid on a renewable energy firm at Massajog in Beed district has revealed that the prime suspect, Sudarshan Ghule, twice spoke to co-suspect Valmik Karad on Dec 6 when the former visited the firm’s yard.
The first conversation was before Ghule reached the yard and assaulted the firm’s security guard and staffers, and the second after a clash with villagers, including sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, who intervened, SIT sources privy to investigation details told TOI.
The extortion bid is one of the three cases being investigated by the SIT headed by state CID’s deputy inspector general Basavraj Teli. The other two cases are the Dec 9 abduction-murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh and the assault on the firm’s staffers. Ghule, a prime suspect in all three cases, is an aide of Parli municipal council’s former chief Valmik Karad, who is named only in the extortion bid case. Karad is an aide of NCP minister Dhananjay Munde. Investigators are examining the likelihood of Karad’s involvement in the sarpanch’s murder.
