NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday raised concerns over the state of democracy in India, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to dismantle regional parties across the country.
Speaking at a press conference, Thackeray also questioned the fairness of elections, citing alleged voter and EVM fraud.
“I met Rahul Gandhi last night and will be meeting Arvind Kejriwal today. The future of our country is in doubt. We don’t know where our votes are going due to voter and EVM fraud. Are elections really being held in a free and fair manner? What happened with us, Kejriwal ji, and Congress could happen to Nitish ji, RJD, and Chandrababu Naidu in the future,” Thackeray said.
Accusing the BJP of targeting regional parties, he added, “The BJP’s dream is to break up and finish off every regional party, just as they want to dismantle the democracy of this country.”
‘INDIA Bloc preparing roadmap for future’
Speaking on the INDIA Bloc’s efforts, Thackeray said a roadmap is being prepared with inputs from senior leaders. “INDIA Bloc has joint leadership; it’s not about egos or personal benefits but the future of the country,” he said.
The INDIA Bloc has been facing hurdles, especially after its poor performance in the recent Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi Assembly polls.
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi flagged concerns over discrepancies in voter registration. Gandhi claimed that 39 lakh new voters were added in Maharashtra within just five months after the Lok Sabha elections, exceeding the state’s total adult population.
The INDIA Bloc is focusing on addressing these electoral concerns while strategising for the upcoming polls.
