Friend of teen who died booked for rash driving

A police team reached the spot and rushed both Gargi Chate and Sayyam Sakla to Breach Candy Hospital, where the girl was declared dead by doctors at 9.42pm. A post-mortem examination was conducted at the civic-run Nair Hospital, Mumbai Central. Her father, Vitthal Chate, has claimed her body.
Gargi, originally from Nashik’s Gangapur Road, had been staying at Prabhadevi. Sakla has been booked under sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita that deal with causing death by negligence and rash driving.
Traffic police had announced a couple of days ago that they would station two vehicles on the coastal road following complaints about supercars, including Lamborghinis and Ferraris, racing up and down the 10km stretch between Marine Drive and Worli late at night and on weekends.
Residents who had complained had posted videos of speeding luxury cars on the stretch, which was opened to traffic last year. Citizens had also pointed out that the speeding cars violate Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, and disrupt designated silence zones, including areas near Breach Candy Hospital. The speed limit for vehicles on the coastal road is 80kmph on straight stretches, 60kmph in tunnels, and 40kmph at turns.
