Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy reveal DOGE's expiry date. When is it?

The newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under President-elect Donald Trump’s administration is already making waves. Headed by tech billionaire Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, DOGE aims to cut wasteful government spending and eliminate excessive regulations by the 250th anniversary of the United States.
On X, Ramaswamy shared his vision for the department, writing, “Most government projects should come with a clear expiry date. That’s why we set one for DOGE: July 4, 2026.”

Musk responded to Ramaswamy, saying, “The final step of DOGE is to delete itself.”

DOGE’s goal is to create a more streamlined, cost-effective government, with Musk focusing on reducing the federal budget by $2 trillion and removing regulatory barriers that hinder innovation. Meanwhile, Ramaswamy is emphasising the need to reduce government overreach and build greater trust in national institutions. The department is set to dissolve itself once it has met its ambitious goals by 2026.
Recently, the initiative received support from leaders, including Senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders took to the social media platform X, stating, “Elon Musk is right. The Pentagon, with a budget of $886 billion, just failed its 7th audit in a row. It’s lost track of billions.”
He continued, “Last year, only 13 senators voted against the Military Industrial Complex and a defense budget full of waste and fraud. That must change.”
