Drugs in school? Video shows Thane students consuming banned substances; cops begin probe
Police have started an inquiry into a complaint about two students consuming banned substances.

THANE: Police have launched a preliminary inquiry into a complaint alleging that two students consumed banned substances on the premises of a private school in Thane, an official said on Monday. The inquiry follows a complaint submitted by local Shiv Sena leader Eknath Bhoir to Vartak Nagar police station senior inspector Pravin Mane, seeking an immediate investigation into the matter.Police said the complaint was based on a video clip that allegedly shows the two students consuming ‘drugs’ on the school premises.A police officer said the students seen in the video would be detained and produced before a juvenile court. However, no offence has been registered so far, the officer said. The police are also looking into how the alleged substances entered the school premises and whether anyone supplied them to the students.Bhoir questioned the school’s security arrangements and alleged negligence on the part of the management.“How did illicit substances enter the school premises in the first place? Who supplied them to these students, and what were the school security guards and teachers doing at the time? We will not tolerate negligence,” Bhoir said.He warned that if the school management was found to have been negligent or complicit in failing to ensure a safe environment for students, his party would launch an agitation against it.Police said they were examining the video and other aspects of the complaint as part of the preliminary inquiry.(With PTI inputs)
