Mumbai: Announcing its plans for enhanced open spaces and greenery in its budget, the BMC on Tuesday said a contractor has been appointed and letter of acceptance issued to plant bamboo trees on the open space near the service road along Eastern Express Highway for the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Urban Greening Project.
The budget also mentioned the Mumbai Central Public Park, which will come up on combined plots of 120.1 acre from the Royal Western India Turf Club Ltd’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse land and 170 acre of the land reclaimed under the Mumbai Coastal Road (South) Project. A consultant has been appointed to prepare the design for the racecourse land, and an expression of interest for development on the 170 acre land has been invited from eligible companies as a volunteer agency without any financial commitment of the BMC.
The budget also announced the Anandvan Green Belt, which the BMC plans to develop on the periphery of Sanjay Gandhi National Park between Borivli and Goregaon. Natural stone pathways with trees on both sides and bio-toilets will be included in this initiative. tnn
