Navi Mumbai: An autorickshaw driver sleeping in his vehicle parked on the roadside near Juinagar railway station on the Mumbai lane of the Sion-Panvel highway was killed after a Honda Civic car driver lost control and crashed into his auto rickshaw and another parked three-wheeler nearby on early Wednesday morning. The Nerul police arrested the accused car driver, a 27-year-old civil engineer.
Bhramanand Naikwadi, senior inspector of Nerul police station, said that the arrested accused car driver was identified as Vishnu Rathod, a resident of Mankhurd. The autorickshaw driver killed in the crash was identified as Ghanshyam Jaiswal, a resident of Shanti Nagar at Turbhe Naka along Thane-Belapur road.
Jaiswal was sleeping inside his auto as he was tired after ferrying passengers for the entire night. Another autorickshaw belonging to Rajendra Vankalas (54), a Taloja resident, was parked at the same spot. However, Vankalas and his son were unhurt as they had gone to a nearby roadside tea stall when around 5 am, the car crashed into the two parked autorickshaws.
Inspector Naikwadi said, “Acting on a complaint by the autorickshaw driver Vankalas, the accused car driver Rathod has been booked under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Motor Vehicle Act for causing death by negligence, penalty for driving on a public road in a rash and negligent manner, punishment for endangering the lives or safety of others, acts that endanger the safety of others or human life and penalties for dangerous driving.”
