Mumbai: The state cabinet meeting approved the formation of the Sixth State Finance Commission. The commission will make recommendations for a period of five years from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2031.
The Sixth State Finance Commission will review the financial position of panchayats and municipalities and make recommendations on the following matters:
To divide the net revenue to be distributed among the panchayats and municipalities under from taxes, duties, tolls and fees to be collected by the state and to allocate their respective shares of such revenue to all levels of panchayats and municipalities. The commission will make recommendations on good practices for fund management in the following local self-government bodies and other relevant matters for better financial management of local self-government bodies. — Priyanka Kakodkar
