Mumbai: As part of an initiative to create awareness about the need for rabies prevention and vaccination, the BMC has designed a pick-up vehicle with LED screens under the Mumbai Rabies Elimination Project. The pick-up vehicle will screen videos as part of a campaign to create awareness among the public about rabies and the need to vaccinate stray dogs.
A mass vaccination programme is under way since Sept 28 to vaccinate stray dogs in collaboration with an NGO named ‘Mission Rabies’. More than 25,000 stray dogs have been vaccinated so far with the help of organisations working for the welfare of animals, and the vaccination programme will continue until March.
The LED screens will enable the dissemination of informative messages, including information on the dangers of rabies, the importance of vaccination, responsible pet ownership, and the promotion of animal welfare, besides encouraging citizen participation in measures to prevent and control rabies. Public awareness will be created in all BMC wards through the vehicle. The BMC campaign will focus mainly on densely populated and high-risk areas.
