BMC removes illegal banners in Malabar Hill after complaints

Mumbai: Following a Nov 27 TOI report on the complaints of Malabar Hill residents regarding the illegal posters and banners featuring ruling party politicians being put up in the area, the same was removed by BMC on Wednesday evening. The residents said that despite a law in place, the same was flouted by political parties time and again.
“Despite a Bombay High Court order against illegal hoardings, the law is being flouted on Malabar Hill by political parties. Please take prompt action and have them removed,” read a post by the X handle – Friends of Malabar Hill on social media. It tagged the BMC’s social media handle @mybmc.
The civic body, responding to it, said, “Your complaint has been attended.” They also attached a photograph of the action being taken.
Local residents welcomed the action and said that the BMC should proactively take such actions instead of waiting for residents to complain. “Further, these banners, which are non-degradable, do not get recycled and find their way to the landfill,” said the resident.
