Cancer causing adulteration in Black Dal? Horrifying video goes viral

When it comes to lentils, we often think that eating lentils on a daily basis is helping us meet daily requirements of protein and other minerals. But, what if you get to know that they are causing more harm than benefits? Yes, you read it right. As per a latest social media video, a girl shared a video of the frsu that happened with Kali dal that she bought from the market. Scroll down to read the details.
In an Instagram video , RJ Neha Sharma shared the shocking experience she had with using the famous Kali Dal. She had bought black lentils from Himachal. When she came back home and soaked the lentils in water overnight before cooking them, she was shocked. The black colour of the lentils had mixed with the water. After this, when the girl looked at the lentils, they had turned green. It seemed as if someone had painted the green moong with black colour. As soon as it went into the water, all the colour of the lentils disappeared. Take a look at the video:

It is surely a case of lentil adulteration and can be linked to many health diseases. As per FSSAI, synthetic dyes such as Metanil Yellow are used to make pulses look brighter which are injurious to health. In a report, FSSAI had mentioned that consumers should not buy pulses if odour is unpleasant and taste is bitter or gritty. One should also avoid pulses if living or dead insects are visible in the product. One should always prefer pulses in packed form, under AGMARK, and should also check FSSAI license number.

For the unversed, Metanil Yellow is known to be neurotoxic. Long-term exposure can affect the nervous system, potentially leading to memory loss, headaches, behavioural change, and reduced motor coordination. It is also said that Metanil Yellow may increase the risk of cancer. Its metabolites can damage DNA, contributing to carcinogenesis. And prolonged ingestion of Metanil Yellow can overload the detoxification process in organs like the liver and kidneys, leading to liver and kidney damage.
